Men’s Football:

U 21 Team:

The footballing season of 2014 came to a close on Sunday afternoon last in a disappointing manner as we lost out by the narrowest of margins to Oran in the U 21 Final in Castlerea.

On a perfect afternoon for football Western Gaels started the brightest and were 6pts to 1pt in front after 20mins thanks to points from Oisin Ward and Niall Higgins. Oran dominated the last 10 minutes of the opening half and reeled off 6 unanswered points in a row to lead at the interval by 0-07 to 0-06.

The 2nd half was a very tight and tough affair with scores on both sides hard to come by. Oran got the opening 2 scores of the 2nd half to open up a 3point lead by the 38th minute.

The Gaels rallied and points from Niall Higgins, Jack Higgins and Stephen Ryan eventually leveled the game with 3 minutes of normal time remaining. Both sides had chances to win the game in the remaining minutes but it was Oran who eventually got the winning score in the 62nd minute. Try as they might we could not get the equalizer in the remaining injury time minutes.

Final Scoreline: Western Gaels 0-09 Oran 0-10
